Brown Sugar Imports Delayed

Saint Lucia Consumer Affairs Department wishes to inform the public of a delay in the delivery of sugar supply.

PRESS RELEASE

The Ministry of Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs is experiencing a shipping delay of brown sugar due to supply chain issues, and is actively working to expedite shipments to St. Lucia.

Global supply chain issues constrain a variety of basic goods from reaching the hands of consumers. Sugar shipments continue to be impacted due to container shortages; specifically 20 ft containers are becoming increasingly difficult to source due to congestion at ports and rising demand.

The Ministry would like to reassure the public that every avenue is being pursued to mitigate the impact of the global supply chain disruptions.

Brown sugar is expected to arrive by this weekend; however, refined (white) sugar is available to consumers for purchase.

The Ministry wishes to thank you for your patience and understanding.
