The Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs has outlined measures to prevent food-borne illnesses during the upcoming Jounen Kwéyòl festivities. The Ministry is focused on ensuring public safety through strict food safety protocols.
Sherma Toussaint, an Environmental Health Officer, emphasized the importance of these precautions. “Ensuring food safety during Jounen Kwéyòl is paramount,” she said. Vendors are advised to use proper hot holding equipment like stenos and cold storage devices such as coolers. Toussaint stressed the need to maintain correct temperatures to avoid food-borne illnesses.
Additionally, the Ministry urged food handlers to be aware of cross-contamination. Separating raw and cooked foods is critical to minimizing health risks. Tools such as cutting boards and grills must be used properly to prevent contamination.
Toussaint added, “The Ministry is also encouraging food vendors to practice proper handwashing, wear clean clothing and hair coverings, and ensure that food is displayed and stored in a manner that protects it from contamination.” According to Toussaint, these steps are key to maintaining food safety during the event.
The Ministry called for continuous adherence to these guidelines to guarantee a safe celebration. Local organizing committees will collaborate to monitor safety practices throughout the festivities.
