Twenty-two-year-old Arenato Soumere alias ‘Toetoe’ of Martin Luther King Street, Vieux Fort has been charged in connection with the death of 59-year-old Loraine Savery, who was shot and killed on March 9th, 2023.
Savery was transported to the St.Jude Hospital via ambulance with gunshot wounds to her body and was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
She was among the victims killed in a surge of gun violence in Vieux Fort.
As a result of the recent gang violence in Vieux Fort, Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre announced that Vieux Fort South had been designated an escalated crime area under the Police Powers legislation.
This legislation allows the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) expanded powers to respond to areas where crime has escalated.
