Commissioner Garde Unveils Strategic Plan to Combat Crime

Acting Police Commissioner, Verne Garde announced the development of a strategic plan aimed at combating crime in Saint Lucia during his first press conference since taking office.

The plan, which Garde will present to Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre on Monday, focuses on reducing crime through a collaborative and multi-sectoral approach.

Garde, who assumed the role on Monday following the retirement of former Commissioner Crusita Descartes-Pelius, expressed his dedication to addressing the challenges faced by the police force. “It is a job that I intend to do in a very organized and systemic way,” Garde stated. “We have had some challenges in the past, and I’m, happy to say we have now constructed a plan. It is my intention to present this to the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia to address the reduction of crime and other criminal activities.”

He stressed the importance of a united effort in fighting crime and called for collaboration across various sectors of society. “Generally, it is my opinion that we should have a collaborative approach towards crime reduction. A multi-sectoral approach is necessary,” he added.

The announcement of this strategic plan marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address crime in Saint Lucia. Garde emphasized that public cooperation will be key to the successful execution of the plan.
