New Groups for CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield

The CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield’s fourth edition was originally scheduled to be played between 13 clubs, but after the withdrawal of Flames United SC and Scholars International SC (due to unexpected travel and logistics issues) the Confederation has reorganized the groups and updated the semifinal qualification criteria.

The tournament will run from the 15th – 24th April.

To guarantee and prioritize the integrity of the competition, the 11 participating teams have been redistributed into three groups.

Platinum FC of St. Lucia is placed in Group A with the following:

Group A: Bayamón FC (Puerto Rico), Platinum FC (St. Lucia), Southeast FC (Dominica), Junior Stars FC (St. Martin)

After group stage play, the three group winners and the best second place finisher will advance to the semifinals.

To determine the second place finisher that will advance to the semifinals and the semifinal matchups, teams will be ranked based on an average of points earned per match played, average goal difference, average number of goals scored, and if required, average points based on yellow and red cards (averages for all tiebreaker criteria due to the uneven number of teams per group).

The updated semifinal pairing is as follows:

  • 2nd Best Group Winner vs. 3rd Best Group Winner
  • Best Group Winner vs. Best ranked second place finisher

If the best ranked second place finisher is from the same group as the Best Group Winner, then the semifinal matchups will be as follows:

  • 2nd Best Group Winner vs Best Ranked Second place finisher
  • Best Group Winner vs 3rd Best Group Winner

The semifinal matches will take place on April 22, followed by the final and the third place match on Sunday April 24th.

Platinum FC who left the island on Wednesday 13th April open their campaign on Friday 15th against South East FC, followed by Junior Stars FC on Sunday 17th and they close their campaign against Bayamon FC on Tuesday 19th April.
