Casimir Applauds Saint Lucia Kings’ Historic CPL Victory

Minister of Sports Kenson Casimir praised the Saint Lucia Kings’ historic victory in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) during a pre-Cabinet press briefing. He emphasized the importance of the achievement for Saint Lucia’s sports legacy, highlighting the contributions of several local players.

Casimir was in Guyana for the final cricket match and welcomed the Kings back to Saint Lucia the following day. “We’ve got another historic weekend for Saint Lucia,” Casimir said, noting that players Johnson Charles, Ackeem Auguste, Shadrack Descartes, and McKenny Clarke performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament.

Key Contributions to the Victory

Casimir also recognized the contributions of John Eugene, who served as the Saint Lucia Kings’ fielding coach for the first time. “This has been our best year in the field by far,” he said, citing better fielding and extra efforts in preventing boundaries as key factors in the team’s success. He credited Eugene’s influence in elevating the team’s performance.

Cricket Development in Saint Lucia

Looking to the future, Casimir discussed the development of Saint Lucia’s cricket talent. “We, as a Saint Lucia nation, can boast of seven players, including two females, being considered professionals,” he said. This marks a first for the country in professional cricket.

Spotlight on Young Talent

Casimir singled out young talents like Ackeem Auguste and McKenny Clarke, both of whom he believes have bright futures. He expressed confidence in Auguste, who played a significant role in the final and is considered a potential future captain of the Saint Lucia Kings.
