The Organization of American States (OAS) announced that St Lucia’s representative, Elizabeth Darius-Clarke, has taken on the role of chair for the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI).
In a ceremony at OAS headquarters in Washington D.C., Darius-Clarke emphasized the importance of CIDI’s role in guiding the OAS’s efforts toward sustainable development and reducing extreme poverty in the region. Darius-Clarke will serve as Chair until December 2024.
“As St. Lucia takes on the Chair of CIDI, we fully endorse the emphasis on hemispheric connectivity within this Organization,” she stated.
Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin, the outgoing chair and Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the OAS, reflected on her term, noting that the theme was centered around the keywords: connectivity, technology, and economic resilience.
“Connectivity and technology influence every aspect of our lives, from health and security to education driving economic growth,” she remarked. “I urge you to continue working diligently to equip our people with the necessary tools to improve their lives and those of future generations.”
The OAS also announced that Costa Rica’s representative, Alejandro Solano, will take over as vice chair for the second half of the year, succeeding Dominica’s Steve Ferrol.
The chair of CIDI changes hands every six months, following the alphabetical of countries in Spanish.
