Lucian Blue Ocean Seafood Inc. closed its doors in November 2021 due to financial issues according to Minister for Health Hon. Alfred Prospere.
The minister says this has had a negative impact on the fishermen as the facility’s purpose was to allow fishermen to sell and market their fish and although there are numerous wholesalers who purchase fish from local fishermen the Lucian Blue Ocean Seafood establishment is still of importance.
He announced during Monday’s pre-cabinet briefing that the cabinet has recently approved assistance through the National Economic Fund to see the reopening of the Lucian Blue Ocean Seafood Inc.
“In the recent last quarter, we saw an amount of $400,000 that was allocated to improve the electrical on the facility. Because obviously the facility has a very high cost in terms of electricity and we are hoping that we can Solaris’s the facility to reduce to the cost of electricity. This facility is very important to us.” he added.
The minister says in the past there has always been a high cost in terms of running the facility and the previous private partnership was unsuccessful.
He says his hopes are with the availability of the funds through a loan, he hopes to see the reopening of Lucian Blue Ocean Seafood.
