Three Wards Escape From The Boys Training Centre

The authorities are seeking three wards who escaped from the Boys Training Centre (BTC) On Wednesday 15th March, 2023.

This comes after the escape of four wards last month, with two returning and leaving two at large which brings the total number of escapees to five.

The escape of the four wards stirred public concern over the security at training centre.

During a press conference last month, Hon. Joachim Henry, Minister for Equity and Social Justice stated the security at the premises will be increasing along with a review of the BTC management, security and operations.

In February, a fifteen year old ward who had escaped from the BTC was charged with the murder of 78 year old Marcelina Alexis.

The minister noted the BTC is not a maximum security institution but a centre for young men primarily needing care and protection.

“We will continue working with those who are there, we will continue to make changes, we will work expeditiously to have a new juvenile centre.” he said.

The government has approved using the former George Charles Secondary School to be used as a juvenile detention centre.
