The progression in making football clubs in Saint Lucia professional are underway, as said by the Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir.
At a recent Cabinet press briefing held on Monday February 20th, the Minister reiterated the importance of registering football clubs as businesses, which would enable the buying and selling of players locally, internationally and regionally. This would create revenue streams for Saint Lucian football clubs who will receive transfer fees for their players.
In past instances, talented players belonging to football clubs in Saint Lucia have moved on to playing internationally, but the club that they were previously part of in Saint Lucia received zero funds for the transfer.
With semi-professional football, this will come to an end. The clubs and all those who are part of the sports production will be compensated.
