At the 41st National Sports Awards, Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir announced that Saint Lucia will host its very first Island Champs Interschool Track and Field championship.
The competition is aimed at encouraging communities and schools islandwide to get involved, as the best of the best at secondary schools will compete for the Island Champs title. It was noted that schools would be responsible for the necessary coaching, support and sponsorship required for their schoolās participation.
If victorious, a prize of Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000) will be awarded to the winning school. Taking into account St. Maryās College and St. Josephās Convent, which are sole gender-based schools, Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) will be awarded to the male champion and Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) will be awarded to the female champion.
The Minister for Youth Development and Sports also expressed his excitement and expectations that the championship will be a huge one.
