“At the end of the day, you do what is best for the people, you respond to what they ask you for, and you try to give them the best service,” remarked Babonneau MP Dr Virginia Albert-Poyotte when pressed by reporters about her intention to contest the Babonneau seat once more.
Dr Albert-Poyotte won the swing constituencty, defending then-MP, Ezechiel Joseph as the country took a massive swing in the favour of the Saint Lucia Labour Party.
The incumbent MP says she has focused on the needs of the smaller communities within her constituency. Dr. Albert-Poyotte touted her work in the constituency as the basis of her confidence in reelction.
“I focus a lot on the needs of the people in the inner communities. So when you drive on the main road, you would see the hundreds of drains I have done…We have taken care of the footpaths. We have built over six bus shelters. We have repaired all the community centers – all of them now are human friendly – where the people in the community can gather now in a decent environment to have meetings and community activities,” she said.
MP Albert-Poyotte also highlighted the completion of the La Guerre Primary School, which underwent modernisation repairs at a cost of XCD7.3 million. Another critical project she highlighted was the Des Barras Water Treatment plant at a cost of XCD1.3 million.
Dr. Albert-Poyotte assures her constituents that she has the full support of the Prime Mininster to carry out crucial developments in the constituency.
“I have committed and I have gotten the support of the prime minister to engage in what we call a few of the mega projects. The mega projects, we call them projects that would cost over a million dollars.”
The MP disclosed that the SLP has a candidate selection process which de-endorses sitting MPs and opens the floor up to potential new candidates.
