The victim of Sunday’s chopping incident at Aux Lyon, Dennery has been identified as 66-year-old Augustus Forde of the same community.
Reports indicate that police received a report of a violent altercation at about 4:00pm on Sunday, February 23, 2025, prompting the response of the Richfond Police Station. On arrival the officers observed a male individual lying in a prone position with multiple lacerations to the back of his head.
According to fire Service emergency responders, the incident reportedly unfolded between Augustus Forde and his brother: “A family member reported that he was shot then assaulted with a cutlass by a male individual. On assessment, he presented negative vitals, with obvious signs of death. It was observed that he sustained multiple lacerations to his head,” said the Fire Service in a statement on Monday.
Eyewitnesses allege that the deceased’s brother shot at the deceased whilst near a garage. The deceased managed to run towards his house and fell to the ground. The suspect allegedly followed the deceased and began chopping him whilst on he ground.
Forde was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner who arrvied at the scene at approximately 6pm that evening. He is the island’s 10th homicide for 2025.
