In a press statement on Friday, February 21st, the Major Crimes Unit of the RSLPF disclosed that the Force has initiated investigations into a missing M16 rifle from the Gros Islet Police Station.
According the police statement, during the conduct of these investigations, detectives had cause to arrest a serving member of the RSLPF. This Police Officer remains in custody, assisting with the process.
āThe Commissioner of Police, Verne Garde, and, by extension, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, strongly oppose any form of institutional corruption. Commissioner Garde assures the public that he will take all necessary steps to ensure that police officers operate within the ambit of the law,ā said the Force in its press statement.
The RSLPF reminds the public that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, and assures that the RSLPF is committed to providing additional information as the investigation progresses.
