From a semi-professional football league to major rehabilitations to playing fields across the country, Sports Minister Kenson Casimir says the Ministry is embarking on a robust agenda to develop sports in Saint Lucia.
Minister Casimir provided a list of facilities earmarked for redevelopment during his address on Monday. “These facilities will include the Leon Hess playing field in Castries East, the Dennery playing field change room and completion of the stands. The Bocage court is also down for an upgrade. The Augier Playing field is also down for upgrades. The Marc court for construction. Bexon playing field for resurfacing and lighting,” he explained.
Minister Casimir added that the playing fields at La Resource, the Mabouya Valley, Pierrot, Des Barras, Babonneau (Central) and the Vigie Sports Complex are also due for an upgrade.
He says La Clery residents will also be rewarded: “The people of La Clery, after winning the first ever semi-professional league, will be happy that the playing field is down for upgrades in terms of lights and seating for that area.”
The Minister says the semi-pro football league is making strides and shows tremendous promise. “In terms of semi-professional football, we also had the first award ceremony for individuals in terms of the individuals from each team that scored goals, defended very well, played very good midfield, and the official handing over ceremony of cheques to the winning teams and those who excelled in this year’s semi-professional cricket league,” he said.
Casimir says more updates on the pace and progress of these works will be given later this year.
