Inspector Zachary Hippolyte, Royal St Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), urges sound system clubs and enthusiasts to play music responsibly.
“We don’t want those indiscriminate playing of music in the communities; it is causing problems.” Hippolyte said last week on Police Insight via Choice TV. He emphasized that while playing music is acceptable, it should be kept at a lower volume, noting that the noise from some systems is overwhelming.
Hippolyte also addressed a WhatsApp message about police officers participating in loud sound groups, calling it “unacceptable and unfortunate”. He urged officers to teach their clubs the law.
He highlighted that quiet communities often complain about loud music, adding, “Sometimes, you take a nap during the day and the music system is so powerful that it not just wakes you up, it rattles your dishes, it rattles your cutlery, it rattles your home.”
Hippolyte’s cautioning follows recent concern over loud Olympic celebrations, recommendations for measures to regulate music, and prior public health considerations.
