Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre visited a number of communities to assess damages following the passage of tropical storm Bret on Thursday 22nd, June, 2023.
Pierre says in a post shared via Facebook there were no reports of loss of life and minimal destruction to infrastructure in his constituency.
He notes the damages to the banana farms and the roofing issues at the port in Dennery will be addressed.
The minister thanked NEMO, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, the fire service, Hospital Staff, the GIS, DIPT, SLASPA, FLOW, DIGICEL, LUCELEC, WASCO, radio and television stations and all other emergency personnel for their service.
He stated that the hurricane season has just begun and urged the public to practice proper waste disposal as well as to secure their property against loss and damage.
“Following the all clear, I visited my constituency to meet with residents and to assess the damage left by the passage of Tropical Storm Bret. Fortunately, we had no reports of loss of life and minimal destruction to infrastructure. The disaster preparedness committee was also present conducting further assessments and will report their findings to the NEMO.
I then made my way to Dennery and observed the damage to banana farms. I will await the official reports from the Ministry of Agriculture to devise the way forward.
My tour on the east coast ended at the Daito in Dennery where fisherfolk had secured their vessels on land to mitigate against losses due to high tides. I commend them for heeding the warnings of the authorities. We will address the roofing issues at the port caused by the strong winds in the upcoming weeks.
I concluded my short tour in the community of Anse La Raye where residents informed me of their experiences during the storm, particularly those who live on the waterfront.
I would like to thank the NEMO and all volunteers, the RSLPF, the SLFS, Hospital Staff, the GIS, DIPT, SLASPA, FLOW, DIGICEL, LUCELEC, WASCO, radio and television stations and all other emergency personnel for their service during this time. Your dedication to our country is noteworthy.
My brothers and my sisters, this is just the beginning of the Hurricane Season. I encourage you to practice proper waste disposal and to secure your property against loss and damage. Let us remain vigilant and ready. May God bless us all.
Stay Safe Saint Lucia.
