MOH Urges Persons With Respiratory Symptoms Or Chronic Illnesses To Wear Masks At Wellness Centres

In a statement issued to the public, the Ministry of Health urges persons with respiratory symptoms or chronic illnesses to wear masks when seeking care at any wellness centre to protect against the spread of respiratory infections such as COVID-19 and influenza.

On Wednesday, June 14th, 2023 the ministry announced the closure of the Respiratory Hospital formerly known as the Victoria Hospital.

The Victoria Hospital was converted to the Respiratory Hospital to facilitate the isolation of COVID-19 patients and their treatment and care.

With the reduced threat of COVID-19, reduced admission rate and reduced utilization of the facility for respiratory cases the decision was made to integrate the management of COVID-19 into the regular health service.

Persons are encouraged to continue visiting the Wellness Centres closest to them for general health services such as screening and care for Diabetes, Hypertension, wound care, and vaccinations, among others.

Wellness Centres are open daily from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Urgent Care services will continue to be available at the Gros Islet Polyclinic and Dennery Hospital from 8:00 am to midnight and at the Soufriere Hospital all day Monday to Sunday.

The Ministry of Health further informs the public that the Cuban Eye Clinic located at the Victoria (Respiratory) Hospital will remain open to offer regular eye care services to the general public.

Persons are asked to call the clinic at 456-8282 to make appointments.
