“A Walk For Democracy” Supporters Rally Alongside Chastanet

Supporters of the opposition leader Allen Chastanet rallied alongside the Micoud South MP on Tuesday 30th, May, 2023.

Chastanet returned to the House of Assembly following his suspension by the Speaker Of The House Claudius Francis and members of the chamber for failing to retract or prove statements made against Richard Fredrick.

At a press conference held on Wednesday 17th May, 2023 the leader urged his party supporters to come out in numbers to walk with him as he says the voice of the people is needed to cause the speaker of the house to resign as he has shown he has no intentions to do it on his own.

Dozens of supporters walked alongside the leader to the House of Parliament Tuesday morning in support of his return.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ernest Hilaire says the walk and gathering of supporters outside the House of Parliament are an exact representation of the current democracy the island holds.

He says under the last administration persons were prohibited from coming within a hundred meters of the House of Parliament.

“Remember under the last government there were barricades preventing people from even coming within a hundred meters of parliament.” he recounted.

“A match that is supposed to be against democracy in Saint Lucia, there are people right outside parliament demonstrating.”

“This is supposed to be a walk for democracy And you’re outside in parliament yard expressing your views. There cannot be a bigger expression of democracy than this.” Hilaire stated.
