The body of a woman who went missing after a vessel with nine passengers on board capsized in the Saint Lucia channel on Friday 12th May, 2023 after departing from Martinique has been found.
The woman has been identified as Andrea Jules of Odsan, Castries.
Police announced the discovery of a ‘badly decomposed’ woman’s body on Monday 16th May, 2023.
The body was found by a vessel about six nautical miles off Pigeon Island.
Andrea was among nine passengers who left aboard a vessel named ‘Se Kon sa nou ye’ for a shopping trip to Martinique.
The vessel left Martinique at approximately 4:00 pm on Friday afternoon and reportedly capsized between the hours of 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
It was reported that the deceased took off her life jacket and gave it to her son who was also a passenger on the boat.
She reportedly fell off the boat when it capsized and never resurfaced.
An air and sea search and rescue was conducted on Saturday and Sunday where eight passengers were found but Andrea could not be located.
The body was discovered following a joint search and rescue with responders from Saint Lucia and Martinique.
