Prime Minister Hon. Phillip J. Pierre has announced a new 2.5% tax on goods and services effective July 1st, 2023.
The Prime Minister says this levy will not be added onto food items unless prices increase overseas.
“Let me be clear, this levy will not be imposed on any food items. This means Mr. Speaker that the cost of food should not change because of the levy unless prices increase overseas” he said in his budget address on Wednesday.
Pierre says he urges businesses in the private sector to work alongside the government and not use this new influx in taxes as a means to increase the price of food.
