CDC Tenants Given Thirty Day Notice To Vacate Appartments

Minister for Housing and Local Government Richard Fredrick, says in regards to evicting persons from the CDC it is being handled on a ‘case by case basis’.

He says upon investigation, it was made known that there were a number of apartments being used for other purposes rather than being used as a home.

He says there is reluctance from tenants in giving up the apartments. However, the minister says there are enough grounds to get persons who do not reside at the CDC leases terminated.

“Some of the CDCs, the persons in whose names the CDC are registered live in the US, live in England, who is using the CDC as a storage area, has a house up Cap Estate and have a store in town;

There is reluctance in giving it up but we have done our investigations and what we have found is that there are enough situations that lend themselves to getting persons who do not reside there, getting their leases terminated.” he said to reporters at a press briefing held on Monday.

Fredrick says persons have been written to and have been given thirty days to vacate the apartments.

He ensures everything will be done to create a smooth transition for tenants.
