Spider Montoute Calls For The Resignation Of The National Security Minister

Public Relations Officer for the United Workers Party (UWP) Spider Montoute has called for the resignation of the National Security Minister after stating the minister has failed in his responsibilities.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre serves as the National Security Minister.

Montoute says the actions that have been taken in efforts to reduce the recent crime surge have not been helpful and a different strategy needs to be implemented.

“Photo ops such as going to Vieux Fort and walking around the streets of Vieux Fort will not help, it will not change anything. As a matter of fact, the prime minister in his best efforts should realize by now just as Dr. Anthony, a member of his party said the measures that have been taken are not working they are not paying dividends and so a new and different approach should be taken.” he said.

He says he is calling on the prime minister to dismiss the National Security Minister because he has failed miserably in his responsibilities.

“The prime minister will have to determine in his cabinet who is the best-suited person to fit that bill. But the current national security minister has been a failure.” the former Gros Islet mp said.

Montoute acknowledges the efforts by the government to help deescalate the crime in Vieux Fort however he says even with those measures in place the crime still continued.

“They have taken some drastic measures in terms of bringing to Saint Lucia the RSS and beefing up the policing in Vieux Fort. But even under the nose of the RSS and the beefed-up police presence, we had the Easter weekend another bloody weekend where we had four murders in Vieux Fort once again. Something has to be done to bring to an end that kind of criminal activity that is taking place.” he added.

He says the parliamentary rep for Vieux Fort, the Prime Minister and an effective National Security Minister have to work in conjunction with the police and the citizens of Saint Lucia to bring this situation to an end.
