Prime Minister and Youth Economy Minister Hon. Philip J Pierre says the Youth Economy Agency has been launched and has commenced giving grants to young entrepreneurs, with outstanding interest from the general public.
“The Youth Economy Agency (YEA) they launched I think two weeks ago, they have started giving grants. The office in Chaussee Road will be open the third of April, I understand the interest is out of this world.” he says.
The Minister says there have been a total of sixty-five applications for grants thus far and a total of twenty applications for loans.
The agency is geared towards the youth of Saint Lucia, particularly youth at risk who possess the talent, skills and discipline.
He says the location of the agency was strategically placed in order to accommodate everyone.
“Particularly we want to deal with so-called youth at risk … and this is why its location is strategic, it’s all-inclusive we want everyone to be in it” he said.
The Bank Of Saint Lucia has provided a grant of one hundred thousand dollars to the SSDF for the Youth Economy aiding with the investment in the youth of Saint Lucia.
