“I have come to serve you, and serving you is the only thing that I will do. I will respect you, because respecting you is the only thing I know how to do,” remarked Anse La Raye-Canaries MP, Wayne Girard while addressing scores of Saint Lucia Labour Party supporters on Sunday.
The SLP convened a public meeting on the Anse La Raye Waterfront on March 9th as the race to the next general elections shifts into higher gear. Among the anticipated speakers was the constituency’s MP, Wayne Girard, who also serves as the Minister in the Ministry of Finance in the Cabinet.
The MP started his address my reminding constituents of the reasons they must be proud of coming from Anse La Raye-Canaries. Girard says under his stewardship constituents will not be disrespected or disparaged.
“You in Anse La Raye-Canaries have a lot to be proud of. Look at how your children are performing school now, look at the passion and desire in them to achieve better…your dignity matters to me, and I will never disrespect you for political reasons,” he said.
Girard also addressed constituents’ concerns that he had not been all too present in communities and vowed to change that moving forward. The MP explained that he had spent a lot of time in the ministry and highlighted the country’s three consecutive years of economic growth as being the fruit of his labour.
“I’m giving you my assurance tonight. I will continue to respect you, and I will continue to put you first…I have been in the Ministry of Finance, working hard to make this country better for you and your families,” he said.
Girard highlighted the ongoing construction of the Fire Sub-station, redevelopment of playing facilities and educational assistance in the constituency under his watch. A new call centre and two underwater sculpture parks are also eyed for a 2025 commencement date.
