Entrepot Secondary School has faced challenges with a deteriorating facility, including structural weaknesses and outdated amenities. Responding to the needs of the school’s management, Prime Minister and MP for Castries East, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, with support from Education Minister Hon. Shawn Edward, is prioritising the decades-old school’s rehabilitation.
Principal of the Entrepot Secondary School, Arthur Scott, highlighted the maturity of the now 53-year-old school structure and says the school has gone well beyond its intended time in the buildings. He says this renovation, with the inclusion of a new wing, is welcomed by students and staff
“The school was actually designed to last 15 to 25 years. We are now 53 years old. So you could well imagine that we have doubled the time span for our school building plus two years. So in our 53rd year we have been granted a gift and that gift is the renovation or the implementation of a new wing to our school which the administration of the Entrepot Secondary School eagerly awaits,” he explained.
This renovation will accommodate students with mobility issues so that they can access all floors of the school and not have their learning hampered. “Under this new project, provision is being made for children with disabilities. We have catered for the children with disabilities so that they could be lifted to the various flaws for access to the cl
asses. Also, we are looking at catering to our parents. We have parents who may be wheelchair-bound. And so the design of the building has catered for that,” he explained.
An intuitive design plan, Scott adds, is permanently locating the principal’s office on the bottom floor of the school: “Even the office of the principal in welcoming parents and guests will be situated on the ground floor to accommodate those who need to access the principal or service, get services rendered.”
Funding for the renovation of the Entrepot Secondary School comes part of an XCD 20 million loan the government secured from the AFREXIMBank in 2023.
