Babonneau MP Touts Constituency Projects Ahead of SLP Town Hall Meeting

Ahead of the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s town hall meeting in Babonneau on February 18th, MP Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte is profiting the opportunity to boast of the projects completed thus far.

According to her, she has worked with wider government agencies to make advancements in agriculture, youth and sports in the constituency. Dr Albert-Poyotte, during a phone-in interview during Lisa Jawahir’s “For The Record”, noted that while the constituency has numerous established initiatives, they required urgent upgrading.

We have a lot of the buildings in place – our fire station, our police station, 6 primary schools and the list goes on, however, there was quite a bit of work being done so far in rehabilitating. The community centres, for example, so they can return to full operation. We have also done a lot of housing repairs,” she says.

Babonneau is known for its expanse of vegetation and agricultural output. For this reason, the MP adds, farmers received significant assistance from her office.

We are also an agricultural-based community and therefore we had to do a lot for the farmers. My report card will show that we have made significant strides in agriculture for the Babonneau farmers. They got quite a bit of fertiliser from the Ministry of Agriculture, they got fuel vouchers from myself, we rehabilitated the farm roads, and they got their fair share of water tanks. There was a World Bank project that handled drainage for farmers, so they got quite a bit of help in that area.”

Still a teething issue in the constituency was the rehabilitation of sporting fields for youth recreation and sports development. Poyotte disclosed that on Wednesday, February 12th, she had met with officials from the Ministry of Sports to continue plans for the development of the Babonneau playing field. “We are working on the rehabilitation of the Babonneau Playing Field; for years, the youth could not make use of the field, so they are very happy to have access to the field,” she explained.

Other sporting facilities have also benefited from renovations and welcome additions, she adds: “We also have the La Guerre Field which will be coming on track and we will be creating a sporting village at Fond Assau. We constructed toilet facilities at the Des Barras playing field, and at Fond Assau, we now have toilet facilities for the spectators.”

The MP invites her constituents to the town hall meeting at the Fond Assau Primary School on February 18th to ask their questions. “Please come out to ask about the progress in your constituency and country from me and my colleagues.”

This is the third of the SLP’s town hall meetings where residents can voice their concerns to their representatives and the Prime Minister himself.
