St. Lucia Plans Grand Homecoming for Julien Alfred

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire confirmed that St. Lucia will hold a grand celebration for Olympic star Julien Alfred next month.

At a pre-cabinet press briefing on Monday, Hilaire said Alfred, the nation’s first Olympic champion and the world’s fastest woman, will be honored fittingly.

Alfred won two medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Her gold and silver in the 100m and 200m sprints secured her place in history. Furthermore, her success put St. Lucia on the global athletics map. Consequently, her achievements drew worldwide attention and pride from St. Lucians at home and abroad.

“Julien is getting here on September 24. She’ll be here for about three of four days. We will plan a very comprehensive program for her and make sure that she gets a welcome and recognition fitting of an Olympic Champion and the fastest woman in the world,” Hilaire said.

The Julien Alfred Homecoming Committee is already planning the details of her visit. This committee includes Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Officials, law enforcement, and other stakeholders. The celebration will feature parades and official ceremonies to honor her achievements and inspire future athletes.

St Lucians are eagerly awaiting their Olympic champion’s return. They are preparing for celebration that will be memorable for years to come.
