SLP Details Planned Rigorous Vetting Process

The two main political parties in Saint Lucia are ramping up their campaigns as the 2026 general election approaches.

The United Workers Party (UWP) recently announced that several young candidates are showing their interest in running.

Meanwhile, the Saint Lucia Labor Party (SLP) is focused on its candidate selection process. General Secretary Leo Clarke emphasized that even current MPs aren’t guaranteed re-endorsement. “The field is open for challenges to anybody,” Clarke said, stressing that the SLP seeks the most capable candidates.

Clarke reassured MPs that those with strong public support shouldn’t fear challenges. He also highlighted the party’s stringent vetting of new candidates, including background checks and possible runoffs to select the best contenders.

SLP Leader Phillip J. Pierre’s party, which won 13 of 17 seats in 2021, is determined to present a strong slate for the upcoming election.
