Police Presence Increased For Upcoming Carnival Season

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) says the presence of the force will be increased for the upcoming carnival season.

Assistant Police Commissioner Dr. Mashama Sealy says the presence of the force will be increased not only for the parade of bands but all approved carnival activities.

She says this is an effort to maintain safety and security to ensure the activities remain as incident free as possible.

“Police presence at all activities not just at the parade of the bands, but for every single approved carnival activity and so this is important so that the officers are able to quell any disputes if and when they arise to deal with any criminal activity and of course to maintain safety and security to ensure the activities remain incident free as possible.” Sealy said.

She disclosed that the custody suites will not be completed in time for the carnival activities as it is currently under construction however there are measures being put into place to accommodate criminals if need be.

“Custody suites, it will not be ready in time for the carnival activity but we will ensure that the holding cells at all our stations, we have 15 stations across the island, will have space for any offenders and off course we will request the assistance from the Bordelaise Correctional Facility to use the cage, so we will have the cage access.” she shared.

The 2023 Saint Lucia carnival season is set to take place July 1st – 19th.
