Garde&#8217;s appointment follows the advice of the Public Service Commission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced the appointment, which took effect Monday, on a six-month contract. Speaking of the short-term contract, Pierre stated that the position needs careful scrutiny, before a decision [to extend] is made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garde previously served twice as Director of Corrections at Bordelais Correctional Facility and led the Special Branch Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF). Pierre praised Garde&#8217;s experience, emphasizing his leadership in law enforcement and his previous roles in managing police stations across the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pierre highlighted Garde&#8217;s extensive training in areas like drug enforcement, narcotics intelligence, and leadership. Garde holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement and Administration and has been recognized for his service by U.S. and U.K. agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garde replaces Cruscita Descartes-Pelius, whose tenure as the first female Police Commissioner ended Saturday.
